Hardcover. Antoine de Saint-Exupery Ilustrador. First Edition. Copy #365 of 525 numbered copies SIGNED by the author on the tipped-in limitation page. The American edition appeared before the French or English editions and is essentially the only way to obtain a signed edition of this book as the author was assigned to fly with the French Free Air Force shortly before publication and went missing about a year later while on a mission. This special issue of one of the most beloved books of the twentieth century is, consequently, one of the most desired limited editions and does not come often upon the marketplace. The first issue dustwrapper on this copy, though price-clipped, is correctly numbered on the spine. THE LITTLE PRINCE is both the most-read and most-translated book in the French language and was voted the best book of the 20th century in France. Clean and bright with light wear to the spine ends. About Fine in a Near Fine, price-clipped dustwrapper with some loss to the spine ends, mostly at the top affecting the "T" in "The".

Bound in publisher's salmon cloth stamped in maroon. Near Fine with softening to spine ends, former owner names and bookplate to front endsheet, endsheets browned. In a Near Fine first trade issue dust jacket with publisher's price of $2.00 intact and the Fourth Avenue address listed, with toning, light edge wear with a few short closed edge-tears, and a slight stain to the spine. A beloved classic translated into over 300 languages, The Little Prince has become one of the best selling books ever to be published. Signed copies of are rather scarce, since during the month of publication, the aviator-author was called to serve in the Free French Air Force. While flying a reconnaissance mission the following year, he disappeared over the Mediterranean Sea without a trace.

First Edition. "SAINT-EXUPERY, Antoine de. The Little Prince. Translated from the French by Katherine Woods. New York: Reynal & Hitchcock, (1943). Small quarto, modern full pictorial brown morocco. $17,500.Signed limited first edition, number 335 of only 525 copies signed by Saint-Exupery, bound in full morocco replicating the original dust jacket design. The name of Saint-Exupery endures "because of a rather strange little book he wrote just before he died. Le Petit Prince (The Little Prince) has something of Hans Christian Andersen in it, something of Lewis Carroll and even, it may perhaps be said, a bit of John Bunyan. It is often lyrical sometimes profound However it is classified, The Little Prince has entered children's literature, in the manner of quite a few other such hard-to-define works in the preceding centuries" (Pierpont Morgan Library 224). Because the author disappeared in a reconnaissance flight over the Mediterranean in 1944, signed copies of this, the last work published during his lifetime, are most desirable. Reid, 564. Occasional inoffensive soiling, foxing and creasing to text. A beautifully bound copy in wonderful condition.". Signed.
